Question by LJ1010: what towns in eastern pa are known as high school football towns…?
I noticed that towns in eastern pa…outside philly…aren’t big on high school football like they are in texas..so i’m wondering if anybody knows of any towns around philly that are known as high school football towns..like friday night lights

Answer by Philly Broker
I live in the Philadelphia suburbs, but I’m originally from Florida.

I played on a state championship caliber team (we lost the championship game on a last minute b.s. call, but that’s a story for another time) so I know a thing or two about HS football. There is some very good football in the Philadelphia suburbs and in Philadelphia – the reason I suspect it doesn’t have that “Friday night lights” feel is that many small football towns live and die for the Friday night games because that’s literally the only game in town. In the Philadelphia area (and in most big cities), the high school games have to compete with the many college games in the area and pro games.

Here’s some of the better teams locally in the Philly area:
1. St. Joe’s Prep
2. Conestoga HS
3. Cardinal O’Hara
4. Malvern Prep
5. Central Bucks

Bad start for our quarterback (#9 in red). It was a tough season opener for South Point ending in a 28-21 loss. They looked much better in the second half.

Q&A: So I have a minor depression problem (high school senior)?

Question by Studious Ambition.: So I have a minor depression problem (high school senior)?
I am just having this depression recently. Here is the issue, I am a high school senior right now and I had to attend high school in s small racist town in Georgia. As a result, I did not get a lot of opportunities due to the fact that I was an Asian American. The type of school I had to attend was a magnet school, it did not have any sports like basketball or football and it had always been my dream to play at least 1 season of football whether it be high school or college. Well my first 2 years of high school I fell in a uncaring mood and my GPA suffered, I only had a 3.0 (B Average GPA) and my junior year I made all A’s, the GPA skyrocketed. My SAT score is a 1940 but my GPA is not high enough to get me into any Ivy League schools.

All I ever wanted to do was get out of this state for college because this state has given me the toughest 5 years of my life, I am afraid that due to out of state tuition, that won’t even happen. My parents won’t let me take out a loan at all and I don’t think that with my GPA I will qualify for any merit scholarships. I plan on taking the SAT again if that makes a difference.

Here are my issues

1. I never had the opportunity to play high school football because my parents forced me to attend a magnet school, when I did visit a public school (the one I was zoned for), someone threw a stapler in my direction and told me to go back to my own country. The coach at that public school told me that I my type are not going to be Quarterbacks on his team so I have been attending an academically competitive magnet school ever since.

2. I did not do so well my first 2 years of high school so as a result I have an average GPA and I won’t be getting into a top Ivy League school. I have had it rough, my family came to the US when I was 11 and we lived in the beautiful states of Connecticut and moved to more highly educated states like New York and Massachusetts. Now we are in rural Georgia where there is nothing to do and majority of the populace is bigoted. I had to learn English when I was 12 years old and that put me behind some of the other kids.

How can I cope with this depression?

I asked the people on the American football section about will I be able to play football in college without high school experience and most of the top contributors there said no it won’t happen……

Most people on the higher education section told me not to even bother applying to the Ivy Leagues.

My GPA is a 3.4 right now (guidance counselor told me today). I have never even had a girlfriend before……

well first off, i understand you. i hate where i am right now too. it’s kind of affecting my grades, but i’m doing my work just so i can maybe get out and study abroad. the only way i know of to deal with that kind of depression other than doctors and medication and such is to just do what you have to do to get out. think longterm. as in, even beyond graduation day. go all the way to your job in your head and just move towards that. if you have your circle of friends, hang with them. sometimes it works to make small goals for each day as far as school goes, or to just find a way to fill your free time and keep yourself from thinkiing too much. i watch anime, make amvs, cook, whatever. just stay busy until you can sleep.

and yes the SAT score will help. you had AP classes, so is that 3.4 weighted or unweighted? i had a 3.2 unwieghted 3.4 weighted when i got in places. the difficulty of your school will work in your favor, as well as the time in other countries.

as for sports, at some schools even if you don’t make the college team, you can play on an intramural team. i’m not sure what the difference is, but that’s maybe a possibility.

and it’s not really necessary to have not had the girlfriend. i’m in college and i still haven’t had a real bf either. you’ll do better in college where there’s a bigger range of people and more people accept you. i wouldn’t worry too much about that one.

How can ESPNU, Rivals and Scout rank the top 100 basketball players in the nation?

Question by Conor C: How can ESPNU, Rivals and Scout rank the top 100 basketball players in the nation?
There are 18,000+ high-schools with basketball teams in the nation. How can they find the best? Are there people just as good as the top recruits that don’t get ranked due to lack of exposure. Because it would seem hard for colleges and scouts to find the best with that many schools.

My top 10 list of undrafted players to target. Where will they go?

Question by RAIDERS SUCK SAYS THE EVIL HORSE: My top 10 list of undrafted players to target. Where will they go?
1. Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College: Herzlich battled back from cancer. He is not 100 percent yet, but played well enough to be drafted. He will make a team and could play Mike or Sam linebacker. He would have been a first-round pick if he came out before he got the cancer. He had 11 interceptions and 40 plays behind the line of scrimmage in college.

2. Kendric Burney, CB, North Carolina: He ran slowly at the combine, but he makes plays. Watch the Senior Bowl practice tapes. He has a knack for being around the ball. Explain how a slow guy had 11 interceptions and averaged 30 yards per interception return.

3. Jake Kirkpatrick, C, TCU: He’s better than some of the centers drafted, and is one tough guy. This is another player from the Senior Bowl that teams missed out on. He only played one year of high school football. Go watch how well he battles a nose tackle.

4. Pat Devlin, QB, Delaware: He completed more than 65 percent of his passes, threw for more than 6,500 yards and 42 touchdowns in college, and he ran 4.8 at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

5. Scott Tolzien, QB, Wisconsin: He completed 68 percent of his passes with 32 touchdowns and just 18 interceptions, and had a 21-5 record as a starter. He’s worth more than a look.

6. Derrick Locke, RB, Kentucky: He lit up the first half of the Senior Bowl game. He has 4.4 speed and the hands to be a developmental third-down back.

7. Kai Forbath, K, UCLA: He made 40 consecutive field goals from under 50 yards, and a total of 85 of 101 attempts.

8. Henry Hynoski, FB, Pittsburgh: Hynoski was born to be a lead blocker. He also had 40 receptions in college. At 6-feet tall and 257 pounds, he will contribute on special teams and make the short-yardage goal-line package better.

9. Terrence Toliver, WR, LSU: Toliver put forth an outstanding performance at LSU’s pro day. He was also the offensive MVP of the 2011 Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M.

10. Colby Whitlock, DT, Texas Tech: A four-year starter and a candidate for a backup three-technique in a 4-3 defense. He’s 6-foot-2, 302 pounds, and has short arms but has some penetration skills. He broke 5.0 in the 40 at the combine.

HS football — most different rushers in a game for one team?

Question by Shade: HS football — most different rushers in a game for one team?
I’m looking for the greatest number of players to attempt at least one run from scrimmage for a single team in a single varsity HS football contest. The local high school had 20 different players carry the football in their game this past Friday night, which blows away anything I’ve seen previously.

I tried searching the National Federation record book but there isn’t a category for the topic. Tried searching the web but got too much side clutter from college and NFL football references.

If anyone knows of a higher number and can provide a link to a box score or a game story, I’d love to hear it. Any high school coaches or AD’s that have heard of a team handing the football to 20 or more players over the course of a single game?

Best answer:

Answer by mario!! PLEASE STOP!!!
20 different ball cariers? not much of a good thing. but my school we have 2 solid RBs and we just switch them. sometimes the WRs carry the ball 2 but never 20 different people. that would be confusing for me 2 cover. imma linebacker
