Josh Copeland #25 Smash Hitting All District Line Backer

I’m a senior at Haileyville High School in Oklahoma, which is a small rural town just East of McAlester, OK. I am an A & B student with an GPA of 3.07 and academic achievements and awards as a team member in the Choctaw Language class. I am currently taking Choctaw III, which I am extremely proud to be a part of, because no other school in the state or maybe even the nation has went on to offer a Choctaw III class, and it has been a rewarding challenge for the past three years that I have enjoyed, and I have developed a love and respect for the culture. I enjoy all sports and am driven by them, but my passion is for the game of football (LB, RB, and QB) & basketball, (center) for which I have won many various awards in, and have lettered in both sports. I hope to receive a scholarship in football, and would like to play for the Texas Longhorns. I am a 62 senior line backer & running back, weighing 230 lbs. I run the 40 yard. Dash in a 4.6, I bench 315 pounds, and squat 445 pounds. I am interested in receiving a scholarship to attend college with an excellent academic and athletic program, after I graduate. As a Freshman, I started for the varsity high school football and basketball team. I was elected team captain during my Junior year, and again this year for my Senior year. The learning experience I have acquired has helped me to develop the skills to lead, rally, unify, and excite my team to play to win and focus on the game and their performance. Academically, I have

What colleges should someone who did not play high school football look to?

Question by Aticus Ski.: What colleges should someone who did not play high school football look to?
The person has skills, speed and a lot of agility but due to the district he lived in being poor, his high school was not able to afford a football program.

Are Division 3 schools and the Ivies friendly towards walk ons since they don’t recruit top football players?

Best answer:

Answer by (Barret)
True, Division 3 schools and the Ivies do not recruit for football, the Ivies have such a high requirement for academics that it is tough for them to get good football players. Most of the Ivy League football players have top grades and SATs, unfortunately not enough time to practice their football skills.

The Ivies and Division 3 schools do hand out work study programs and other types of financial aid to players but don’t really “recruit” for football.

There are two ways

1. The person can attend a community college and then transfer to a decent university from there. Junior colleges have players who haven’t played football before in their life.

2. Attend a division 3 school, Christian Okoye went to Azusa Pacific and he came from Africa. A lot of Division 3 schools are willing to offer players a walk on opportunity and most of the better high school football players shy away from division 3 schools.

For Ivies, chances are you won’t make it in and that is for everyone. Colleges are getting much more competitive and schools like Harvard and Yale are turning down students with 4.0s and 2400s. The rest of the Ivies are tough to get into as well, Cornell has a 25 percent acceptance rate but the financial aid is bad and the admissions are still rough. When you do make it in, you will be so busy with school work I doubt you will have time for football.

Go the Division 3 route or just do good in college, attend an Ivy for grad school and play football there.

I hate football at school?

Question by Gooseflesh: I hate football at school?
Sorry this is long

Let me clarify … I hate the organized football team at my high school, not the sport itself. I’m quite athletic and I love playing football and stuff at school during recess, and when it’s not so serious.

The reason I joined the high school team was because I wanted to be more involved with my friends and to be able to be part of the team when they always talked about football. So I quit hockey ( which I was really good at , not to brag, I actually was pretty good maybe top 50 in Alberta) which I had alot of passion for. I wanted to prove to my friends that I wasnt a “pansy”. One of my friends always called me that just because I read a lot and didn’t hate football.

Anyway … I sucked. I was always good at school, but that was without equipment and I didn’t know any of the terms of football really, so I played corner. I didn’t mind it, im pretty fast. I made interceptions and tackles in practice, but always seemed to screw up in games. My friends werent mean to me about it, but I could tell how much they thought I was bad.

And the practices were hell. Every day for 2:30 hours after school ( even on game day) we ran so much . We have this hill behind our school Thats probably 70 degrees and a half K tall. We ran it everyday, sometimes we just ran it 11 times which took the whole practice. I didn’t mind , I was in decent shape and all but it wasn’t fun.

The worst part was I wasn’t really part of the team. People loved cranking me just because it was my first year and went out of their way just to line up against me. I kept trying my hardest, but I got some concussions and even one of my best friends knocked me out ( he’s a tank). I was kind of bullied too.

Anyway, I’m not trying to complain but I don’t know if i should play again this year. I want to take honors classes in my first year of high school and leadership and probably won’t have time or energy with football . What should I do ?

Best answer:

Answer by Charlie
Dude, if you’re in Canada, play hockey if you want, no one should criticize you for it! Have your friends come down to the States and play football with real players if they think theyre so tough.
